This is a poem I wrote back in 2007, but I wanted to share this today, on the anniversary of D-Day. Never forget those who have sacrificed for you. HEROES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
They protected their families from the French and Indians They stepped up against tyranny, and were counted as traitors to England They were hungry, cold, and thirsty, but they still fought They changed the war at Saratoga They obeyed orders given to them by a Frenchman and a rich colonial They cornered Cornwallis and ended the war They went back to their families and farmland They died defending our newly formed country They kept the flag flying high at Fort McHenry They again defeated the greatest power in Europe They volunteered to defend Americans in Texas They did what their states ordered, and fought each other They gave their lives to hold the country together They cried as they killed their fellow countrymen They gave all to hold true to their beliefs They joined the war effort before their country did They defeated the Germans, while mourning the loss of many lives They were killed on an early Sunday morning They joined the military to avenge those that had died They jumped out of perfectly good planes, into a mess of a war below them They didn’t complain about dying, that would have been a relief They fought through hardships and hungers, and still prevailed They defeated the Nazi regime in Germany They stormed island after island in the Pacific They spilled blood at Iwo Jima and kept on fighting They ended the war with the help of a German scientist They came home, after the long war, as heroes They defended innocents against communism They gave their live for Koreans they would never meet They died in the jungles of Vietnam They came home mistreated, as if they had done something wrong They waited patiently… if ever the Russians decided to attack They revenged those who died on 9-11 They fought terrorism in the deserts of Iraq They defended our country They honored our nation They are symbols of respect, pride, and freedom They willingly gave their live for others They are soldiers of the United States Military |
Kevin EnriquezI want to share my journey of storytelling with you. And as time permits, I want to also share short stories or part of longer stories. ArchivesCategories |
