Story Focused Life |
because of your strengthAnother work day is over,
and I continue to complain, I feel unappreciated, I tell others about my pain, I get home and sit on my couch, I turn on my big screen tv, I kick my legs up for comfort as I grab my glass of iced tea, My new smart phone beeps and lights up, Another reply on Twitter, I roll my eyes ready to fight, I'm sure it's someone who's bitter, As I read the reply, I'm stilled, This person did not want a fight, They had seen enough in their life, The words were stern and yet polite, "Dear sir, why do you often scream, Trying to gain this sympathy, You sit and complain about work, And forget it makes you wealthy, I'm not condemning your free speech, I will argue this right in length, But stop this lust for self pity, and remember who has real strength, Your speech, your rights, your base freedom is a gift given from others, The reason you can work and yell, Is due to my silent brothers, Though silent their voice will be heard, Their strength lets them live forever, They fought and died for men like you, So you can complain whenever, So be thankful for what you have, Or at least get this one thing right, If you can't appreciate things, Thank those who kept you from the fight," I put my phone on the table, and leaned my head back with a sigh, My breath was staggered and shallow, and I just couldn't help but cry, So thank you silent warriors, Your strength allows me to be free, for this and everything I have, Your strength allows me to be me. |
